Heels Down & Heads Up

I have tried writing this three times over and haven’t liked the way it sounds but still feeling like it’s something I want to talk about. There's lots of scattered bits so stick with me, it will all come together… I think.

While I was driving, I had to slow down to get into the lane I needed, this mundane moment shined a light on some random thoughts for me, and through the next day or so they all came full circle. By having to slow down to switch lanes, it made me think that faster isn’t always better, and that if we take a look at our surroundings, usually we can find a different approach than just the straight line & fast as possible idea. We can carry this into our world with horses because some horses may need to slow down and take a different route than others who may be able to advance more quickly, also that we as horse people may need to do the same thing (another post coming on this soon) because each rider will carry a unique set of challenges. After those thoughts, it came to me that everyone refers to “pedal down” as in the gas pedal to speed up, but sometimes (my initial slowing down to move over) we need to use those brake pedals to find our destinations. From there, I thought it was interesting how many things reference our feet. From horse riding always being 'heels down’, to boundaries saying, “put your foot down”, to “pedal down”, to Jesus washing feet, our feet can dictate the rest of everything. So here is your reminder to find your balance, remember who you are and what you stand for, slow down and remember that you are no more worthy than the person next to you. Keep your head up and look for a different perspective, rarely is the answer right in front of you.
